Name: Angel Door: Door Pass Canon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel: the Series Canon Point: Angel post-s1 ep9 "Hero" Age: 272 (looks 26) Appearance: ![]() History: "I'm not evil again. Why does everyone think that?" Personality: ( - ) Arrogant: As a human, Angel was born into a somewhat well-off family, and while he never lorded his position over others, a bit of arrogance has always carried over, and he consistently acts as if he knows best. A very good modern example of this is when Angel decides in "Graduation" that he's going to break up with Buffy and leave town, not even discussing it much with her, and only after he's made up his mind. Another is when, in "I Will Remember You," Angel is turned human and has a perfect day with Buffy; but after getting injured, he goes to the Oracles and has them turn back the day, so he can be a vampire again and protect her, but unable to be with her - again, without discussing it with her first. ( - ) Obsessive: Angel has a history of obsessing over things, as well as people, throughout his various incarnations. A good example of this is when he first sees Buffy, as a newly-called Slayer (shown in "Becoming pt1/pt2"), and immediately falls in love with her. He completely changes his behavior, trying to be not only a better person, but fashioning himself to be the exact type of person to catch her interest and intrigue her. Eventually he decides to leave Sunnydale entirely as the only way to avoid her, but even afterward, Doyle finds a photo of her tucked into a book Angel was reading. ("City Of...") ( - ) Taciturn: Angel isn't great at communicating when it comes to his personal thoughts and feelings, and isn't likely to let most people in. This is the premise of the show, with Doyle showing up in "City Of..." and telling him he can't cut himself off from humanity. When a woman he was trying to help ran away from him and ended up killed, Doyle tries to console him and get him to open up, Angel shuts him down with an angry "I don't want to share my feelings, I don't want to open up." There's even a whole episode on this premise ("Sense and Sensitivity") where Angel is confronted with his closed off nature, eventually refuting "So I'm a little reserved, that doesn't mean I don't care." ( + ) Compassionate: Angel is a compassionate person, even when he's exhibiting arrogance or being curmudgeonly; a good example of this is while living in the Hyperion hotel in the 1950s ("Are You Now or Have You Ever Been"), despite trying to avoid all but the most necessary of human contact and living as a recluse, when Angel discovers that a demon is creating paranoia in the other residents, he goes out of his way to find the spell ingredients necessary to banish it. While that doesn't go quite the way he expected, he (eventually) continues to try and help others who are suffering, eventually creating a detective agency that helps with "supernatural problems," with the catchphrase "we help the hopeless." Powers and Abilities: • enhanced senses: Able to hear people talking from at least a floor away; able to track someone solely by scent (potential enhanced eyesight, though not specified anywhere) • superhuman speed: able to run at such speeds that he appears to teleport several meters (to normal humans) • superhuman strength: stronger than average humans, able to lift a heavy metal security gate • superhuman endurance: able to survive explosions and falling from a skyscraper with relatively minor injury, as well as able to withstand prolonged exposure to sunlight and holy items with no ill effect afterward. • "immunity": As a vampire, Angel is immune to most physical forms of harm that would kill a human, save for beheading, wooden stake through the heart, and fire. • high pain tolerance: able to withstand prolonged periods of torture without succumbing. • skilled combatant: proficient in several forms of martial arts, able to beat other skilled, superhuman combatants, including Buffy, Faith, Connor, and Spike. • skilled with weapons: likes using broadswords and sometimes axes when fighting strong opponents • rudimentary sorcery: some experience performing spells, exorcisms and glamours, although prefers to let others with more expertise do magic • skilled artist: shown several times drawing lifelike portraits of individuals, sometimes from memory, well enough to identify them; has "very nice handwriting" • multilingual: can speak quite a few languages, including English, Irish, Korean, Greek, Latin, Italian, Spanish, French, Russian, Romanian, and German. Potentially a few demonic languages as well (he's shown trying to learn a couple) • photographic memory: possibly part of his curse, but able to recall details with acute clarity, even after some time has passed. Inventory: his claddagh ring Samples: text and action |
